Il progetto artistico, che prevede la co-presenza di alcune opere dei due artisti per tutta la durata dell’esposizione, è ideato in modo unitario e risulta strutturato in due “movimenti": dal 7 ottobre al 18 novembre 2022 I’attenzione è dedicata alle opere di Filippo Falaguasta, dal 25 novembre al 5 febbraio 2023 il focus si concentrerà sui lavori di Giancarlo Norese.
La stretta collaborazione tra artisti e curatore porta alla nascita di una mostra in grado di mescolare stili, percorsi, ironie e registri narrativi differenti, con la finalità di forzare le definizioni linguistiche in rapporto alle tecniche di produzione dell’arte. CHIMERA presenta opere che hanno segnato la produzione recente di Falaguasta e di Norese, a cui si affiancano lavori realizzati appositamente per l’evento bolognese. Ciò che accomuna la ricerca dei due artisti, e che li distingue nel panorama dell’arte italiana, è il tema del “rischio” legato al lavoro, un approccio che li porta a intendere l’arte in modo essenziale, come offerta disinteressata al flusso della creatività e alla libera fruizione del pensiero: un viaggio attraverso tecniche, azioni, relazioni e linguaggi, che fanno da specchio a esperienze di vita realmente vissute. Il fatto che questo patrimonio sappia trovare una restituzione artistica di valore è determinante, ma non rispecchia fino in fondo quel che si cela nei depositi dell’agire di Falaguasta e di Norese. L’immagine di un archivio ideale, impossibile da riprodurre e riordinare, è quella che maggiormente riflette l’esperienza artistica di Filippo Falaguasta, un archivio fatto di memorie, frammentati, pubblicazioni, che testimoniano le presenze (“improvvise”) dell’artista in mostre di grande valore. Nel suo pellegrinare tra Italia, Europa e Stati Uniti, Falaguasta ha esposto più volte in Germania, a Colonia (Galleria Esther Schipper, Galleria Michael Janssen, Galleria Monika Spruth), al Museo d’Arte contemporanea del Lussemburgo e nella mostra Custom Colors a New York, nel 1995.
Per Giancarlo Norese è invece l’idea di “scostamento” a restituire chiarezza sul diversificato e inafferrabile modo di concepire il flusso creativo, che per lui ha sempre a che fare con l’economia dell’essenziale e del quotidiano, intendendo la sopravvivenza artistica come primaria fonte di ispirazione stilistica. Il portfolio è centrale nel lavoro intitolato Expertise Express (1997) in cui, in accordo con il gallerista De Carlo, Norese si applicava autonomamente alla lettura di portfolio di artisti che si affacciavano all’epoca alla galleria milanese. Norese raccoglie dati esperienziali, annota spunti sul reale, conversazioni intrattenute via e-mail con curatori e critici, come Hans Ulrich Obrist e Harald Szeemann: l’artista sembra interessato a tutto ciò che sfugge a interpretazioni univoche, il suo archivio digitale (e non) è parte integrante della sua produzione artistica.
Falaguasta e Norese hanno collaborato nel 2013 presso Playground, al Liceo Artistico Munari di Cremona, in un workshop che ha prodotto una serie di autoritratti di gruppo raffiguranti gli studenti e il personale della scuola. Norese, nel 2019 e 2020, ha inoltre dedicato due pubblicazioni (a edizione limitata) alla produzione e alla figura di Filippo Falaguasta. Tra loro il dialogo in questi anni è stato continuo. Ora la mostra CHIMERA accomuna in modo programmatico le figure di questi due artisti, che si distinguono per unicità e coerenza del loro percorso nel panorama dell’arte contemporanea italiana.

The artistic project, which provides for the co-presence of some works by the two artists for the entire duration of the exhibition, is conceived in a unitary way and is structured in two "movements": from 7 October to 18 November 2022 the attention is dedicated to works by Filippo Falaguasta, from 25 November to 5 February 2023 the focus will be on the works of Giancarlo Norese.
The close collaboration between artists and curator leads to the birth of an exhibition capable of mixing different styles, paths, ironies and narrative registers, with the aim of forcing linguistic definitions in relation to art production techniques. CHIMERA presents works that have marked the recent production of Falaguasta and Norese, alongside works created specifically for the Bolognese event. What unites the research of the two artists, and which distinguishes them in the panorama of Italian art, is the theme of "risk" linked to work, an approach that leads them to understand art in an essential way, as a disinterested offer to the flow of creativity and the free use of thought: a journey through techniques, actions, relationships and languages, which mirror real life experiences. The fact that this heritage is able to find an artistic restitution of value is crucial, but it does not fully reflect what is hidden in the deposits of Falaguasta and Norese. The image of an ideal archive, impossible to reproduce and rearrange, is the one that most reflects the artistic experience of Filippo Falaguasta, an archive made up of fragmented memories, publications, which testify to the ("sudden") presence of the artist in exhibits of great value. On his pilgrimage between Italy, Europe and the United States, Falaguasta has exhibited several times in Germany, in Cologne (Esther Schipper Gallery, Michael Janssen Gallery, Monika Spruth Gallery), at the Luxembourg Museum of Contemporary Art and in the Custom Colors exhibition in New York, in 1995. For Giancarlo Norese, on the other hand, the idea of "displacement" restores clarity to the diversified and elusive way of conceiving the creative flow, which for him always has to do with the economy of the essential and the everyday, meaning artistic survival as primary source of stylistic inspiration. The portfolio is central to the work entitled Expertise Express (1997) in which, in agreement with the gallery owner De Carlo, Norese independently applied himself to the reading of portfolios of artists who were looking at the Milanese gallery at the time. Norese collects experiential data, notes hints on reality, conversations via e¬mail with curators and critics, such as Hans Ulrich Obrist and Harald Szeemann: the artist seems interested in everything that escapes univocal interpretations, his digital archive (and not ) is an integral part of his artistic production.
Falaguasta and Norese collaborated in 2013 at Playground, at the Liceo Artistico Munari in Cremona, in a workshop that produced a series of group self-portraits depicting students and school staff. Norese, in 2019 and 2020, has also dedicated two publications (limited edition) to the production and figure of Filippo Falaguasta. The dialogue between them in recent years has been continuous. Now the CHIMERA exhibition programmatically brings together the figures of these two artists, who stand out for the uniqueness and coherence of their path in the panorama of contemporary Italian art.
